Join the Lawyer Referral Service The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (LRS) is organized and operates to provide a public service by which any person may readily obtain legal services at an affordable fee, or referral information for appropriate legal service, or both. In the past 12 months, LRS referrals have referred over 14,586 cases. LRS is a non-profit organization created by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association to assist individuals who do not have counsel and are seeking help with a legal problem. Persons who contact the LRS are referred to a lawyer who has indicated that he or she is qualified to handle the legal matter presented. How the Service Works Each attorney's information is maintained in a rotating computer file by area of practice and the geographic area. When a call is received, the LRS Clerk will screen the call to determine the type of case as well as geographic location of the attorney's office and will make a referral based upon that information. The panelist's record will then be rotated to the bottom of the referral list of that particular area of the law. Panelists agree to provide one half-hour consultation to the client for a fee negotiated between them and the client in advance. The client is given the name and telephone number of the qualified panelist and is then transferred to the attorney's office to arrange an appointment. Following the referral, a notice will be sent to the panelist via email and a comprehensive status report will be sent quarterly. The Lawyer Referral Service will also send a survey to clients to follow-up on the service provided to the client by the LRS and panel member. Arbitrators and Mediators The LRS has an experienced panel for attorneys who would like to receive referrals for arbitration and mediation cases. Any panel member that applies for the arbitration and mediation experienced panel must have liability insurance coverage that includes Arbitration and Mediation practice. Fees KCMBA Members - $120.00 Each panelist is allowed to select up to five areas of practice for which he/she is qualified to accept referrals. Any additional area(s) of practice are $30 per category. The panelist shall be responsible to pay 10% of all fees received. Complete the application, Panelist Agreement, and optional Experience Panel applications and submit them, along with your payment for membership and a copy of the declaration page from your professional liability insurance policy.
