ATTORNEYS

Membership dues for attorneys practicing in the Kansas City metropolitan area are based on type of practice (private practice or public sector) and year of initial admission to any state Bar. 


Regular Membership - Any lawyer in private practice who is in good standing with any Bar in any state is eligible to be a Regular member of the association.  Regular members must practice in or hold primary residence in at least one of the following counties: Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte or Ray in Missouri and Johnson or Wyandotte in Kansas. Government and Public Sector Membership - Any lawyer who is solely employed by a local, state, or federal government agency and either practices or resides in the counties of Jackson, Cass, Clay, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte, and Ray in Missouri or Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas.  Public/Government members receive all of the rights and privileges of membership and are extended a significant discount on regular membership dues.

Affiliate Membership - Any lawyer in good standing of the Bar of any state who neither resides nor practices in the counties of Jackson, Cass, Clay, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray in Missouri and Johnson or Wyandotte counties in Kansas, is eligible to be an Affiliate Member of the association.  Affiliate members shall not be entitled to vote or to hold office in the Association.

Sustaining Membership - All KCMBA members are invited to become Sustaining members for an additional annual contribution of $100.00.  Sustaining members receive a variety of extra member benefits, including an individual picture in the Bar Directory.  Learn more about sustaining membership. 

Fellows of the Bar - Fellowship is the highest level of membership at KCMBA.  Any member who has been in practice for a minimum of eight years and has demonstrated a sustained commitment to the Association is welcome to become a Fellow of the Bar for an additional annual contribution of $500.00.  Learn more about becoming a Fellow of the Bar.

 


NON-ATTORNEYS

Non-attorneys who have a legitimate interest in the mission and goals of the association may join KCMBA as an Associate Member.  Law students are entitled to free student membership for the duration of their enrollment in law school. 

Associate Membership  - Any person not a member of the Bar of any state is eligible to be an Associate member of the association, provided that such a person has demonstrated a legitimate interest in the promotion or accomplishment of the objectives and purposes of the association, but an Associate member shall not be entitled to vote, hold office in the association, or join/serve on sections or committees. Student Membership  - Students enrolled at any accredited law school are eligible to be Student members of the association.  Student members shall not be entitled to vote or to hold office in the association, but may serve as non-voting members of any committee.  Student members will not be listed in the annual Bar Directory, but may attend any CLE seminar for the cost of lunch only (if applicable).
